RPG Stretch Goals Funded!!!!

Thank you all so much for bringing this project to life including all of the added content which is now unlocked! While we included a very brief synopsis of each RPG scenario we wanted to give a sneak peak of the introduction that sets up each one: The Blatant Beast, The False Florimell, Lucius Grows Close, & Rescue the Lion.

The Quest Begins

It is a time of brave knights whose mettle has been tempered in the heat of numerous battles. All across the land, knights struggle to hold back the impending doom brought about by invading armies, vicious beasts, and craven nobles hiding behind a false standard of chivalry in opposition to the true knights of King Arthur’s Round Table. Sworn to protect the weak, to uphold what is righteous, and to defend the realm from those who would bring it to ruin, the noble brotherhood of knights has an opening in their ranks that the King is eager to see filled. But unlike other orders of knights, membership among the Knights of the Round Table is no simple thing to ask and then receive. A knight must prove that they are courageous without reward, noble without deception, and strong without cruelty. No easy task are these tests, which is why the seat has stood open for so long.

The King’s herald has sent proclamations throughout the land: the seat has been empty for too long, and he has issued forth a challenge to the knights of the land to prove their worth! You and your companions have gathered together to try to prove your devotion and strength to the Round Table, but the tasks you seek may not be as simple as they appear…

Each player is taking on the role of one of the knights seeking membership in the Knights of the Round Table and part of Arthur’s court. There is only one opening to join the order, but the knights are all friends who are loyal to each other. Each of the tasks set before them will not only test their mettle but also their devotion to the ideals of being a good Knight.

Prologue

The stories begin with the heroes setting out for Camelot, the crown jewel of Arthur’s Kingdom. It is a formidable bastion of peace, justice, and safeguards the people of Britain. The players will take on the roles of knights who are aspiring to join the Knights of the Round Table: a quest in itself mighty indeed, but one which countless others are attempting to claim for themselves. The player’s characters (referred to as heroes henceforth) could be old friends, comrades in arms, or even strangers bound together by fate and circumstance, but their goal should be to arrive at Camelot and begin their service to King Arthur.

Updated STL File

There are two issues with the Sword in the Stone first player miniature marker being provided exclusively to backers of this campaign via the STL file. The first is that in demos at conventions, the sword is consistently breaking in transport. Second, we wanted to update the base to be more reflective of the story with including the anvil. While the file is not the final update, here is a preview of the updated one that you will be able to download in the Backerkit (and we will link the original for those interested).

At GameHole Con

For folks at Madison, WI this weekend for Game Hole Con, you can check the game out in the West Lobby Main Hallway (across from the ice cream stand) at table 131 tomorrow after 10am!

First Design Diary Entry and Next Stretch Goal Crossed!

With the next RPG adventure stretch goal ($12,500) unlocked we bring you the first card design diary entry:

Design Diary #1

Hello backers!

I’m Channing, designer ofPendragon: Glory of the Round Table.

I’ve been obsessed with card games for as long as I can remember. Since my brother bought us booster packs in 1995, I can remember a lot. My history with Pine Box Entertainment goes back to the very first Doomtown: Reloaded event at Gen Con 2014, where I snagged Top 16 and started podcasting with some of the founders. Since then, I’ve had the joy of helping with YouTube content, Kickstarter promos, and playtesting alongside the PBE team.

A few years ago, I pitched them a delightfully unhinged idea: a chivalric card game about Knights, Glory, and Questionable Decisions. It was the right place at the right time and they said yes. With our friends at Chaosium, we’ve been developing Pendragon: Glory of the Round Table for the last three years.

Today, I want to share a peek at something special: some example offerings from the Name-A-Card tier, the 6 cards being added that aren't currently in the TTS module. Presented here are some of the Event options.

Why Traits Matter

For additional Events, I knew they needed symmetry and balance. But more importantly, they needed flexibility. That’s why I leaned into one of my favorite mechanics in the game: Traits.

Traits weren’t in the earliest versions of the game. Back then, players often pitched cards just to get them out of hand. These cards had fun ideas, but were too narrow. By embracing the RPG roots of Pendragon, we found a way to keep those flavorful, highly specific effects without sacrificing playability.

Now, these cards aren't just thematic. They are useful in Competitive, Cooperative, and even Solo play. Sure, you might never Forfeit an ally’s Possession in a friendly co-op run, but having the option to pitch a card for Appeal or support another Knight with Constitution adds meaningful agency.

More choices means more stories.

Why Three Event Choices?

Pendragon breathes in threes: 3 Stats, 3 Cards in hand, 3 Possessions in play, 3 Gold a turn. For these new Event options, the design shape practically revealed itself: one card per Stat but with triple utility. Each card offers:

Pledge for one Stat, Trait 1 supporting a second, Trait 2 covering the third.

And to make them even more intuitive, all three cards share similar Trait 1 abilities. That way, once players understand the first card, they instantly get how the next two work. This helps to speed up gameplay and deepen long-term mastery.

Stat Identity

We worked to ensure that each stat has its own identity. This way, you can expect what a card might do by checking which stat it boosts or which stat it keys off of. Strength loves breaking and empoweringPossessions. Constitution digs deep into Quests. Appeal hoards Gold and Cards.

I hope you enjoyed this little glimpse into the design process! Next time, I’ll pull back the curtain even further with early playtest cards and how they evolved into what you're seeing today.

Cheers for now, and may your quests be glorious.
Channing

FULLY FUNDED!!!!

THANK YOU to everyone around the world, to those just joining us on this project and our returning backers. We've even unlocked the first Pendragon RPG Adventure Stretch Goal, The Blatant Beast, written by JD Kennedy and as of right now all Name A Card tiers are pledged! It was a rough start pending approval (and a lesson learned in Kickstarter review) but we got there and you helped fund this project at 4 hours and 20 minutes.

Our goal now is to unlock all of the RPG content with some campaign pushes including ads in the upcoming Glass Cannon Network live games. Their crew recently ran through a Pendragon campaign; if you're new to the property, check out their show! We'll also be on site for a mid-campaign push at Game Hole Con in Madison, WI. If you have a chance, please share the Kickstarter with your gaming friends and community.

Besides updating you on our stretch goal status, we'll also be discussing the history of Pine Box, how the project came to be, and our future plans to share with all of you in more updates. Once again, thank you for joining us in this quest to keep making tabletop games for you, our growing community.

Greetings followers and thank you so much for awaiting notification on the campaign launch. In making the finishing touches this past weekend, adding graphics & videos, our sending for approval is still pending Kickstarter review. As soon as we're given the go ahead (anticipated within next 48 hours) we'll set to launch. We hope you can pledge to the cause and help support our latest project in tabletop gaming.
